Kōnane
Kōnane is a traditional Hawaiian strategy game sometimes called Hawaiian Checkers. It is a game of space and timing: every move is a jump over an opponent's stone, and the player who can move last wins.
Play KōnaneSetup and opening
The board begins with alternating Black and White stones around four empty center holes. Black makes the first jump into one of those open spaces.
How a jump works
- Select one of your stones with a legal jump.
- Jump horizontally or vertically over one adjacent opponent's stone.
- Land in the empty hole immediately beyond the jumped stone.
- The jumped stone is removed from play.
Diagonal moves are not allowed. A single stone may continue with multiple jumps in the same straight direction. Continuing is optional, so you may end a jump chain when another jump is available.
Winning
After a turn ends, the next player must have a legal jump. If they do not, they lose and the other player wins. Kōnane has no draws under these rules.
